Content ownership and your rights
Last updated
When you make something on Asterune โ a game, an avatar item, art, music, or code โ it's natural to wonder who owns it and what you're agreeing to by uploading it. This page gives a plain-language overview. The full, binding terms are in our Terms of Service.
You keep ownership of what you create
You retain ownership of the original content you create and upload to Asterune. Publishing your work on the platform doesn't transfer your copyright to us. Your creations remain yours.
The licence you grant Asterune
To actually run Asterune, we need certain permissions for the content you upload. By publishing content, you grant Asterune (operated by Solarius) a licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it for the purpose of operating and providing the platform โ for example, showing your game to players, delivering your assets in-game, and featuring content in the catalogue.
This licence exists so we can run the service. It doesn't give us ownership of your work, and its scope is described in the Terms of Service. When your content is no longer on the platform, the licence ends, except where we need to retain copies for legal, safety, or backup reasons, or where the content has been shared with or used by other users in ways that can't simply be undone.
Only upload what you have the rights to
You're responsible for making sure you have the rights to everything you publish. As set out in our Community Guidelines, you must not upload assets, artwork, music, or code that you don't own or have permission to use, and you must not claim someone else's work as your own.
If you use third-party assets, make sure their licence permits use on Asterune. Infringing content can be removed, and repeat infringement can lead to account action โ see Copyright and the DMCA.
Content made by other creators
Items, games, and assets made by other creators belong to those creators. Buying an item with Runes gives you the right to use it on your account within Asterune โ it doesn't transfer ownership of the underlying work or let you redistribute it. Items and Runes are not transferable between accounts.
Moderation and removal
Ownership doesn't exempt content from our rules. All content on Asterune must follow our Community Guidelines, and content that violates them โ or the law โ can be moderated or removed regardless of who created it.
What happens to your content if you leave
If you delete your account, your content is handled as described in our Delete account guide and Terms of Service. Some content may be removed, while certain records may be retained where required for legal, safety, or operational reasons. Note that content others have already interacted with, or that has become part of shared experiences, may not be fully removable.
