Notifications and email preferences
Last updated
Notifications keep you up to date on what matters β friend requests, messages, the outcome of a report, and important account activity. This page explains the kinds of notifications you'll receive and how to control them.
Types of notifications
Asterune notifications fall into a few broad groups:
- Social β friend requests, new followers, and direct messages
- Safety and moderation β confirmation when a report you submitted has been reviewed, and notices about your own account
- Account and security β sign-in alerts, security changes, and verification reminders
- Billing β receipts, subscription renewals, and payment issues
- Games and creators β updates from games you play or creators you follow
- Promotions β occasional news about features, events, and offers
In-app notifications
In-app notifications appear in the notification area of the Asterune website and the desktop client. Open it to see recent activity and mark items as read. The desktop client can also show system notifications on your computer when something needs your attention β you can control whether it does from the client's settings.
Email notifications
Some notifications are also sent to the email address on your account. These come from addresses ending in @solarius.me. There are two broad kinds:
- Essential emails β security alerts, billing receipts, legal notices, and other messages tied to your account or required by law. These keep your account safe and informed, so they can't be switched off while your account is active
- Optional emails β social updates, game and creator news, and promotions. You're in full control of these
Managing your preferences
Adjust what you receive from Settings β Notifications. For each category you can choose whether to receive it in-app, by email, or both. To stop optional marketing emails, you can also use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any promotional email, or turn off the Newsletter option in Privacy settings.
Turning off a category only affects notifications β it doesn't change the underlying activity. For example, muting billing notifications won't stop a renewal from being charged; it just stops the reminder.
Not receiving notifications?
If you're missing notifications you expect:
- Check Settings β Notifications to confirm the category is enabled
- For emails, check your spam folder and add @solarius.me to your contacts so our messages aren't filtered
- Make sure your email address is verified and correct
- For desktop notifications, check that the client is allowed to show notifications in your operating system's settings
